Founded in October 2012, Belfast based Sensum is a real-time, mobile, behavioural analytics platform used for measuring engagement anytime, anywhere across a range of audience demographics.
We get under the skin of your customers by capturing System 1 and System 2 data. By combining traditional market research with biometrics you can greatly enhance your understanding of customer responses.
We caught up with founders Gawain Morrison and Shane McCourt to find out more about what they do and how they do it.
How did you come across the idea for your business?
We both come from an interactive entertainment background and so we created an emotional response horror film, which we premiered at SXSW in 2011. The film allowed the audience to delve into a unique experience by measuring various reactions such as heart rate which affected the outcome of the film and created unique feedback from each audience member.
Who do you view as your competitors?
We don’t really view anyone as a competitor as no one offers the complete consolidated view of various sensor types like we do.
Where do you see yourselves in a year’s time?
In a year’s time we hope to be the go-to company for behavioural analytics.
What advice would you give fellow startups?
Our main bit of advice would be…DON’T DO IT! Only messing.
If you do, it is a hard graft, so enter at your peril, you’ve got to have pretty tough skin. But mainly, go into it with your eyes wide open and be really REALLY flexible…
Anything else we should know?
It’s not just metrics, because we come from a creative background we offer interactive entertainment and events. We now have a free diary app for basic user journeys and day in the life studies. Keep an eye on @Sensumco for information on us.
